QUARTERLY PROGRESS REPORT, JANUARY, 1996

Prepared for: David Lavery, Program Manager

Approved by: Charles Weisbin, TRIWG Co-Chairman

TASK: Low Mass Muscle Actuators

  • MILESTONE:
    * i-PMMA, which was reported to have a very high electrostictive coefficient, will be tested to
       form a baseline (April 96).
    * Develop methods of introducing electrodes to produce actuators (July 96)
    * Investigate alternative ESP actuaotrs (Aug. 96)
    * Analyze muscle Configurations to effectively harvest ESP actuation capability (Aug. 96)
    * A selected muscle mechanism will be produce to demonstate a 1-DoF arm with ESP actuator (Sept. 96)

  • ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
    * A series of potential constituents for efficient ESP material were selected.
    * A new family of ESP material consisting of Perflurinated Solfonic Acid.
